New York-based photographer Chris Buck is known for his celebrity portraits and magazine cover photos (two of his TIME covers here and here), but recently he’s been working on a rather unusual personal project — one that involves his iPhone and a realistic miniature 3D-printed figurine of himself.
TIME writes that Buck had the tiny 10-inch version of himself printed a few months ago by a 3D printing startup called Doob, which first took a 360-degree image of Buck inside a special chamber filled with dozens of DSLRs:
When his figurine arrived a short time later, Buck began placing the mini version of himself in random places and taking pseudo self portraits with his iPhone:
“From then on, shooting photos of this figurine became my obsession,” Buck tells TIME. His Instagram account has since turned into a regular stream of figurine portraits. Here’s a selection of them:
Buck is calling this project “Likeness.” You can follow along with it through his Instagram account, @the_chris_buck.
