Sustainability is a big and important idea these days, and it’s the one behind this new concept box design for DSLR cameras. It’s clever packaging that has two uses: once the camera is safely transported to the owner, the box is taken apart and used as the owner’s manual for the camera.
Designer Karin Hilgenkamp created the box as a graduation project at her art institute in the Netherlands. On each side of the box is a different 2D diagram of the camera within. To convert the box into the instruction manuals, one simply has to punch out the various pieces:

Turn them on their side, and you’ll find that each one is a little miniature booklet with information about one part of the camera:
There’s even a cover for the manual that helps you keep all the individual pieces in one place:
This concept design obviously isn’t for people who like keeping original boxes around, but it’s an interesting idea for how things like boxes can be reused rather than thrown away.
