PetaPixel: Grammy Winners’ Official Portraits Released to the Public for the First Time

portraits

Photographer Danny Clinch has served as the official backstage portrait photographer at the Grammys for more than a decade, but his shots have largely stayed out of the public eye. One of the traditions of the awards is that Clinch’s portraits are privately sent to the winning music artists as keepsakes.

However, this year was different. The Recording Academy decided to break tradition this past Sunday by releasing Clinch’s portraits online for the public to see immediately after the awards.

In a recent interview with the Grammys, Clinch talks about his knack for getting celebrities to let down their guard in front of his camera:

[…] regardless if I’m shooting backstage documenting or if I’m doing a portrait I feel like I have a knack for being low-key and making people relaxed. When you’re backstage at the GRAMMYs sometimes you only have a minute to take a portrait and I feel I have a knack to get people to relax a little bit and to find their good side. I think a lot of it also has to do with relationships; a lot of these musicians I know, so they come in and it’s, “Hey Danny, what have you been up to?” And I’m talking to them and I’ve shot the picture and off they go.

Here are some of the portraits of winners and music artists posted to the official Grammys Instagram account:
