Joshua Rashaad McFadden, Honorable Mention in this year’s PDNedu Student Photo Contest, had had his project “Come to Selfhood” featured by The New York Times‘ Lens Blog. “Come to Selfhood” explores the notion of a father figure and how internal and external forces have shaped the black male identity. The project combines traditional portraiture, sourced images and handwritten notes from McFadden’s subjects that discuss each of their ideas about black masculinity and identity.
