Mark Raymond Mason: Daily Photo Tip

A 'fast' lens (one with a wide maximum aperture) is called so because the wider aperture allows for a faster shutter speed. Stopped down, it will let in the same amount of light as any other lens. (First published Feb 14, 2010)
