Mark Raymond Mason: Daily Photo Tip

Pixels in digital cameras don't sit tightly against one another: room must be left between them for necessary electronics. 'Microlenses' are therefore necessary to direct light from the spaces into the adjacent pixels. (First published Feb 21, 2010)
