PetaPixel: Shutterstock’s New Photoshop Plugin Steps All Over Adobe Stock’s Toes

In a feat of creative “appropriation” on-par with the whole Instagram/Snapchat Stories release, Shutterstock is stepping all over Adobe Stock’s toes by releasing a powerful Photoshop plugin that does the exact same thing.

Like Adobe Stock’s recent integration in Creative Cloud’s June update, the Shutterstock Photshop Plugin lets you search, edit, and license imagery without ever leaving your Photoshop window. Pick a photo, edit a watermarked version to your heart’s content, and then just click license to remove the watermark but preserve all of your edits.

Here’s a quick look at how it works:

In some ways, Shutterstock is beating Adobe at their own game by virtue of sheer numbers—something Shutterstock founder and CEO Jon Oringer isn’t too shy to point out.

“This is the largest stock photography collection to ever integrate with the Adobe Photoshop application,” says Oringer. “With this plugin we are providing creative professionals the convenience to search for and test more images than ever, directly from the editing tool they are using.”

The new plugin is compatible with Photoshop CC 2014 and newer on both Mac and PC. To find out more or download the free add-on for yourself, click here.
