Some big news from Fujifilm out of Photokina today: they will ship their first mirrorless medium format digital camera next year.
The first model is the GFX 50S will use a new, Fuji-developed 51.4-megapixel image sensor that measures in at 43.8mm x 32.9mm. It’s a mirrorless camera that will accept new “G-Mount” lenses. It will support several image formats including 4:3 (default), 3:2, 1:1, 4:5, 6:7 and 6:17.
Additional specs include:
- focal plane shutter with 1/4000 sec. min speed.
- Tilting LCD display
- no built-in viewfinder but an EVF is included in the box
- an optional viewfinder will tilt up at 90 degrees and swivels
- support for tethered shooting
- an optional vertical grip
Pricing isn’t available yet, but Fuji noted that it will come in under $10,000 and include the 63mm lens.
