As more media brands develop their own virtual reality (VR) content, it will be increasingly important for photographers to learn the language and techniques of this new medium. Like the rush of stills and motion assignments that turned photographers into directors, VR is poised to become the next frontier, requiring a new set of skills and a new approach to storytelling.
The New York Times was one of the most notable outlets to start producing VR stories, and now their team has added a four-part educational live stream series to The School of The New York Times, beginning December 19. The instructors will be the Times‘ dedicated VR editor, Jenna Pirog, and senior editor Graham Roberts. You’ll be able to watch the class from any device, and can also access it later for a refresher on what you learned.
