According to Luxembourg-based photographer Samuel of Jolie Histoire, photographing a couple as they exchange their wedding rings can be quite a challenge. “It is, in my opinion, one of the most difficult shots of the day,” he says. “Although it seems like an easy one, doing it in a creative fashion is challenging.”
To face that challenge during this wedding of a Cameroonian bride and a British groom, Samuel turned his camera on the couple’s daughter, who had just handed off the rings to her parents for them to exchange. Fortunately, the little girl was standing in front of the main window, so the light was already directed toward her; Samuel focused his lens directly on her smile.
“What I love about this shot is that it tells the story through the little girl’s eyes,” he says. “She smiled at them while they were exchanging rings, and this makes for more interesting storytelling.”
(Captured using a Canon 5D Mark III with a 50mm f/1.2 lens.)
