The email this couple wrote Serena Cevenini was “full of passion and care,” as the Italy-based photographer recalls. “They told me about their idea of an elopement in Italy, something really special for their little family as Otto, their son, would be with them.” They stayed at Valdirose, a beautifully quaint B&B in the Tuscan hills, and Cevenini was in heaven. “I had an amazing time photographing them getting ready in a place with such great personality and perfect light. Irene, the owner, is what one would call a beautiful soul, and she managed to create a peaceful, familiar, atmosphere, and baked one of her legendary cakes.”
One of Cevenini’s favorite moments was when the bride teared up at the sight of her son all dressed up, which was perhaps only rivaled by when the groom gifted her “a precious and delicate necklace,” she says, and when Otto tossed the confetti after the ceremony. “He was so full of joy and pride for his parents’ wedding.”
With a party of just three to photograph, including the bride and groom, it’s hard for something to go wrong, but the weather was a little too foggy, Cevenini says. “Yes, even in Italy the weather can be problematic, but I’ve tried to work on the atmosphere, focusing on their emotions and everything went perfectly.”
The other obstacle would be attempting to create “classic, emotional wedding portraits” with a rambunctious little guy in the mix, but, the photographer says, “This forced me to think a little outside of the box, and we had a lot of fun all together—Otto really added a lot of energy (and love) to their photo session!”
