Jason Koxvold “KNIVES” Pop-Up in LES

Jason Koxvold will exhibit his new series “Knives” at Gnomic Book in New York City from June 1-3. The pop-up exhibition will have an opening reception on June 1 at 7 pm.

“Knives” is a combination of landscapes, environmental portraiture and still-lifes, all taken in Koxvold’s hometown in Upstate New York. “The long and short of the project is that in ’04 the local knife factory laid of all 500 of its workers and moved production to China, beginning a sequence of events that would see most of the other businesses in town shutter, drug use and cancer rates spike,” Koxvold writes. “After they left, the largest employer was the town’s maximum security state prison.”

The pop-up will feature framed prints of his portraits and landscapes, in addition to smaller newsprint pieces featuring the knives, which he calls the “connective tissue to the story.”
