French photographer Sarah Bouillaud is known for her fantastical black-and-white images that transport viewers to fairy-tale-like settings in the spirit of illustrated storytelling. In a recent series, she turns the camera inward to her personal journey of becoming a mother. “Odissea,” which she says is about “the transitional period of maternity,” places Bouillaud’s relationships, thoughts and desires in an otherworldly setting. She writes: “It’s the big departure, the odyssey, a march toward the unknown. Go up there, take what you have to take and leave what you have to leave.”
