Born in Baltimore, and currently living in Brooklyn, Devin N. Morris subverts traditional notions of race and sexuality in his mixed media paintings, photographs, writings and video.
This past weekend, Morris displayed works in The Aesthetic of Matter, the curated section of VOLTA NY, which was curated by Mickalene Thomas and Racquel Chevremont.
His work is also included in “black is a color,” a group show open through April 8, 2016, at Antenna gallery in New York.
Along with creating art, Morris is the editor of 3 Dot Zine, an annual publication that celebrates minority artists.
Below is a selection of photographs from two of his series — 4 Stages of Living Positively and 11 Conveniences. All photographs are courtesy of the Artist and Jenkins Johnson Projects.
