Love it or hate it, fashion photography has a profound influence on modern visual culture. An exhibition at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, entitled Icons of Style: A Century of Fashion Photography, 1911-2011, will focus on the specificities of the medium, pairing over 160 fashion photographs with a selection of costumes, illustrations, magazine covers, videos and advertisements. The exhibition, which will be open from June 26 through October 21, 2018, will be the most comprehensive exploration of fashion photography to date.
Featured fashion photographers include Richard Avedon, Lillian Bassman, Guy Bourdin, Erwin Blumenfeld, Louise Dahl-Wolfe, Hiro, Inez & Vinoodh, Peter Lindbergh, Man Ray, Helmut Newton, Nick Knight, Gordon Parks, Irving Penn, Herb Ritts, Edward Steichen, and Tim Walker.
