Most digital CCD and CMOS sensors are covered with a glass or plastic infrared / anti-aliasing filter. Though you have to be very careful, cleaning your camera's sensor is similar to cleaning a valuable lens or another delicate piece of equipment. (First published Jun 26, 2010)
