In “Daybreak: New Affirmations in Queer Photography,” an exhibition open at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art from June 9 through September 2, 2018, the work of 12 emerging New York City-based artists is presented. Collectively, they explore what a queer community looks like in 2018. The work, all of which were made in the past five years, incorporates the photographer’s bodies, their friends and family, and their surrounding environments, and is presented in a wide variety of formats.
Featured artists include Jess Richmond, who won the Grand Prize in the 2016 PDN Curator Awards. The other 11 artists are Kevin Aranibar-Molina, Elliott Jerome Brown, Jr., Ryan James Caruthers, Ryan Duffin, Andrew Jarman, Mikaela Lungulov-Klotz, Groana Melendez, Matthew Papa, Elias Jesús Rishmawi, Vanessa Rondón, and Alexis Ruiseco. The exhibition was curated by Matthew Jensen, a 2016 Guggenheim fellow, and Ka-Man Tse, who teaches at Yale University and Parsons.
