Open to all photographers entered in a full time photography program, or under the age of 24, the Ian Parry Scholarship is a competition named after Ian Parry, an esteemed photojournalist who died while on assignment for The Sunday Times during the Romanian revolution in 1989.
Awarded for the past 28 years, this year, there are two awards—the Award for Achievement and the Award for Potential. Each winner will receive $3,500 towards a chosen project. The winner of the award for Potential will also receive a year-long mentorship from former Ian Parry Board Scholarship recipient, Marcus Bleasdale. Judges for the competition include Elisabeth Biondi, who was the Visuals Editor of The New Yorker for 15 years.
There is no entry fee for the competition. Photographers are asked to submit a portfolio of 12 images with a project proposal. The deadline for entry is July 27.
