Founded in 2011 by Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta, who met while students at the Rhode Island School of Design, Eckhaus Latta is a New York and Los Angeles-based fashion label that utilizes unexpected materials such as rust and found textiles to create gender fluid clothing that speaks to a generation questioning the meaning of identity.
The brand collaborates with artists to create not only clothing, but also performances, writing, and advertising campaigns that challenge traditional editorial photography. The range of their creative output is on display in “Eckhaus Latta: Possessed,” an exhibition of their work currently on display at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York through October 8, 2018.

The exhibition, which is the first devoted to fashion at the Whitney in 21 years, includes a series of photographs displayed in light boxes; a retail environment where viewers are invited to try on, and even purchase, the brand’s clothing; and a surveillance room that captures how shoppers are tracked and observed during the retail experience.
