In a recent article in The New York Times, Whitney Richardson, a former photo editor who now works as a New York Times events manager in London, talked about the technology she uses on the job.
When she was a photo editor, Richardson divulged that she hired photographers after seeing their work on Instagram. “[I] love following emerging photographers of color who are using the platform to define and promote their visual aesthetic. “
In particular, she is “obsessed” with the work of Nadine Ijewere (@nadineijewere), Yagazie Emezi (@yagazieemezi), Tyler Mitchell (@tylersphotos) and Renell Medrano (@renellaice).
The lesson to be learned? All of that time you’re putting into your Instagram feed might very well pay off. Editors are paying attention, so keep up the good work!
