A Last Minute Reminder To Submit Projects To RIT’s Annual ‘What We Do’ Photojournalism Competition

In January of 2017, Catherine Kwiecien, a mother of two young children, heard news that no parent ever wants to hear, let alone for the third time. On the evening of Tuesday, January 24th, Catherine was informed that her then five-year-old daughter, Kailee Kwiecien’s Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of muscle cancer, had returned for the third time.) Although the reminder for this comes a little bit late, the deadline for the Rochester Institute of Technology’s ‘What We Do Now’ photo competition, which is open students who are registered in RIT Photojournalism, have taken an RIT Photojournalism course and/or are members of RIT’s NPPA student chapter, closes tonight at 11:59pm.

Participants are invited to submit to a variety of categories, including Portraiture, Sports Feature, Picture Story and Multimedia Story. The projects submitted must have been taken in the last year. For more information about the rules, and how to submit, visit the competition’s website.

Even if you submit a project without having a lot of time to prepare it, the live judging is worth the feedback. This year’s judges include RIT alumni Paula Bronstein ’78, who was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and Kate Bubacz ’10, the deputy photo editor for BuzzFeed News.
